“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” –Romans 12:2
Each time I read this verse I am challenged to look inside me. The phrase “Do not be conformed” invites us to analyze how much of the world is in us, and, at the same time, how much of Christ is in us.
To conform according to the Vine Dictionary is: To be similar to something or giving the appearance. The key question would be: Are we different? Christ invites us to be more like Him, and definitively challenges us to not be like this world.
What amazes me about this, is that if we are different from the world, we can be assured that every time a youth looks at our lives, they will be looking at Christ in us, and therefore know Him through us.
How much of the world is in me? How much of Christ is in me? Will I be OK being the way I am? Or will I take the challenge to be different?
We are in this world, but we are not of this world. Let’s be different until we can truthfully say, “It is no longer I that live, but Christ who lives in me!”
I leave you with this beautiful phrase I learned from our brothers and sisters of YFC Brazil. “Everything changes when you change!”
Let’s be different!
